Pastor's Message

"After all is said and done..."

It is a familiar phrase that is always followed by some bit of wisdom. Today I wish to amend that to say: " After all is said, it remains to be done."
Through the weeks of Advent and on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, your pastors had a lot to say (not terribly unusual, huh?). Not that we have said it all because you also have had plenty to say during the season. Now there is a lot to do to put legs to our words.
It is up to us all now to live out the trust, obedience, blessing, hope and praise we talked about in our sermon series " On the Road to . . . . "
I pray that in the new year (and what is left of this one) we will join with one another in the journey to live trust, obedience, blessing, hope and praise. It will take no small amount of courage and perseverance to do it. However, God is counting on us to do this. With God's help we can do it. And just think what a difference it can make in our lives and in the world.
May you have a safe and joyful holiday this weekend. May the new year bring you a new determination to live the faith.
If you are in town this weekend, I hope to see you at FCUMC on Sunday, January 1, 2012. If you are away, I hope you will find a place where you can be in
worship. Let's begin the new year giving praise to God, who has brought us safely through another year.

A New Year of Children’s Worship
Beginning January 8, all children in the four-year-old Sunday school class through second grade will have the opportunity to attend Children’s Worship during the
8:30 a.m. traditional worship service. We are excited to now have Children’s Worship available for all three of our worship services. This is also an opportunity for parents to volunteer as worship helpers and join us during this special time of worship.
All volunteers must be Safe Sanctuary trained. If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer at any of the three services, please contact Sherri Smith at 689-5175, ext. 117 or by email at ssmith@fountaincityumc.org. We hope to see you and your child this year in Children’s Worship!

Net News and Needs

As we transition from fall semester to spring semester at the Net, we are looking to do a few updates in the facilities and supplies for FCUMC’s after school ministry. This past semester has been a great success, but we are in continued need of updates to make the ministry a better experience for our students. In taking stock of all our supplies, we have several immediate needs that I have listed below, along with prices for some requested items from Wal-Mart.
  • 4 (new or gently used) Ping Pong paddles. $10.00 for 2 Paddles.
  • 2 (new or gently used) large plastic storage bins.
  • 3-4 (new or gently used) Pool sticks. $9.99 each.
  • Games (New or Gently used) examples are Monopoly, Catch-Phrase, Chess, Scattergories, Apples to Apples etc. Most under $18.00 each.
If you are able to help by donating any one item from the list above please contact Chris Black. Call or text Chris at 865-806-4148, or e-mail chrisb5808@live.com.

Bean Bag drive for the NET
We are looking to create a media room for our students to use in their down time after school, and after completing their homework. We have all the supplies that we need with the exception of somewhere for our kids to sit. We took a vote from our kids, and they overwhelmingly requested that we try to obtain some bean bags for them to use for movies, games, video games etc. We would like to receive 10-12 new or gently used bean bags to fill this need.
The best deal on a good sized bean bag that I have found is for $15 a piece at Wal-Mart. If you will sponsor or donate a bean bag to the Net after school ministry, please let me know. You can contact me, Chris, at 865-806-4148, or by e-mail at chrisb5808@live.com.

Thanks,
Chris Black
